DRAKE – The Bookshop also provides a maths tutoring service. Richard tutored a range of students at primary age and secondary age.
Richard taught for 15 years in middle schools and secondary schools and has also spent time working with whole classes and small groups in primary schools as well as developing a “Maths University” for G&T pupils in Year 6. He has an excellent track record at GCSE level and works to create a relaxed situation where students grow in confidence feel more comfortable working through maths problems during tutoring sessions.
Richard is fully DBS checked (which is available to see) and has references upon request and is able to do the tutoring sessions at your home. Sessions are usually 1 to 1 but in the past he has tutored 2 to 1.
Sessions are run on a bespoke basis with the emphasis being on building confidence in areas currently being studied or on basic numeracy concepts. Students are not just ‘left to it’ in front of a computer or tablet.
Week nights from 5:30pm (subject to change due to demand levels).
1 to 1 sessions £25.00 per hour
2 to 1 sessions £40.00 per hour
No long term commitment £10 deposit required for the following week (non refundable) 48 hour cancellation notice required

“My daughter secured GCSE grade A in year 11. My son is currently working at 7B (Year 9). Both have made above expected progress from their Year 7 baseline.” VH Hutton Rudby
“Through Richard’s tutoring…my daughter’s confidence in her mathematical ability has grown. His encouragement and support has allowed her to achieve a grade A in her GCSE which she was delighted with.” LF Hutton Rudby
“Our daughter was lacking confidence in her maths and seemed to stop progressing. Richard was able to relate to her and make her feel at ease very quickly, which allowed him to tackle the areas which she was uncomfortable with and she responded very well. Her confidence grew quickly and she obtained very good SATs results…We have subsequently recommended Richard to a friend on the back of our experience.” LC Ingleby Barwick
“Richard was able to deliver maths lessons in a fun manner, adopting different teaching techniques for each child. He was very quick to assess and help with problem areas but also able to recommend extension activities where the core skills were well known.” EC Potto
